Our 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of the Woman’s Club of Rock Springs was held Today, @ 1pm in the Ferrero room at the Rock Springs Library on C Street.
Many members attended this very informative meeting. Discussions focused on the important work of bees & butterflies. We have all read news reports about declining populations of native pollinators. Colony collapse disorder, for example, is a major problem for commercial honeybee hives used to pollinate agricultural crops. The problem is complex, and there are multiple factors at work. But population decline can be attributed to habitat loss, diseases and parasites, pollution and pesticide use. There’s not much a home gardener can do to stem the loss of commercial honeybee hives. We can, however, cooperate with local beekeepers when deciding where and when to use insecticides. We also can help support native pollinators experiencing habitat loss by creating pollinator-friendly landscapes and gardens, as well as protecting wildlife habitat.
The host for today (Leslie Jo Gatti) made handouts with a lot of material covering this topic.
Further today, Rue Marie Finney & Leslie Jo Gatti worked on their “Runway Project” for the 2018 Annual State Convention in St. Louis, MO June 23-26, 2018
And Betty Lou Auld spoke about placing Blue/Sliver Pinwheels at the Head Start School for Awareness & Prevent Child Abuse/Neglect. http://hstart.sweetwater1.org/home_page
