Project FAQ
Q: What exactly will this project do?
A: The main focus of the project is to install artificial turf in a fenced area of approximately 2400 sq. ft. used as the canine play space for the dogs currently housed at Rock Springs Animal Control. If funds remain after this is accomplished the club will also provide playground equipment for the animals.
Q: Why artificial turf and not grass?
A: Because animal control does not have the ability to water the area, artificial turf is the only option for improving the terrain on the site.
Q: Why does the play area need new turf?
A: The play area is currently covered with gravel, which is not as conducive to the health of the dogs. The gravel is hard on their paws, causing sores and cuts and is unstable for their joints putting them at risk for injury. The debris can also get trapped in their paw pads, causing further issues.
Q: Can’t the dogs just go to the Bark Park?
A: Unfortunately, no. Due to liability issues the dogs housed at animal control cannot play in the dog park with the dogs that have forever families, despite the close proximity.
Q: How will this benefit the dogs?
A: In addition to reducing the chance for injury, the new turf and playground equipment (if we raise enough money to provide it) will reduce stress, make exercise for physical health easier, and provide sensory input and mental stimulation for the dogs. All of these things help to maintain the mental and emotional health of the animals during their time at the shelter, ultimately making them less reactive, more adoptable, and more likely to find the home that will love them forever.
